TORO CHILD CARE CENTRE
Toro Child Care Centre (TCCC) is a fully registered Non governmental organisation that started its operation in Kabarole district 2005. It is found within the premises of Toro babies’ home in Fort portal town. The main focus of the organisation is to assist the orphans and vulnerable children in the Tooro Kingdom enjoy a conducive up bringing environment in order to be useful citizens of this country.

TCCC works closely with the Board of Governors of Toro babies home (TBH) in planning and implementing the strategic activities that improve the welfare of these children. The management of the two institutions (TCCC and TBH) have signed a twelve year Memorandum of understanding that is reviewed every three years and we are in the final stages of reviewing the first three years.

TBH management has the two Trustees who are the Bishops of the Anglican and the catholic churches in the region who select the board of governors guided by the laws of Uganda. While TCCC has a management structure that represents the friends in Norway with a coordinator and the management and implementation structure in Uganda Fort portal with a coordinator as well.

THE ORGANISATION STRUCTURE OF TCCC

Note: TCCC has got members in Norway and Uganda, the structure aside caters for both. TCCC has in the first three years of implementation concentrated on improving the general welfare of the Babies home and also building its own management structure in line with the projects.
This has been successfully done and offices are in place with staff and the struggle is on to make every structure fully operational.TCCC now has two staff always available in the office and three on the part time basis. TCCC has also done work with the outreach project which has two projects. One that is working directly with the rural communities focusing on orphans and the other project targeting the orphans who are studying with the Children from TBH who don’t have lunch while at school.

TCCC has identified seven community groups that are taking care of the orphans within their communities. Visits and consultative meetings have been conducted and a few supplies shared.TCCC believes in supporting the orphans within their community since it is more sustainable in the long run because survival is easier after life in the home. Some of the Children have relatives who can take good care of their properties mainly land which is becoming scarce in our country. These groups have so far received mosquito nets and blankets for the double orphans or child headed house holds, carpentry workshops tools for the youth who are not in school, second hand clothes, supported the youth with honey harvesting equipment and also bought iron sheets for the nursery school project which has now been fully absorbed in the government school structure.

The school lunch project that is catering for orphans in the school where the TBH Children study from has been operational for the last two years and of the 25 Children who have benefitted from the project five Children have completed primary seven and passed their exams currently we have 20 and we don’t intend to replace those who leave.
